Current Profession and Title/Years in the Role:

Data Scientist, 3 years

Can you provide a brief overview of your current job responsibilities?

I manage and analyze large datasets to provide recommendations to stakeholders about business strategy and operations.

Can you briefly explain your career path from the time you left Camp to your current job you hold now?

I completed my undergraduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill in Statistics then stayed for two more years to complete my Masters of Science in Statistics. Shortly after graduating, I received my job offer!

What is your best career advice for members of our Camp community?

Don’t spend your summers doing something you hate just to make a couple bucks. Summer is your time to have fun and learn about yourself.

What do you believe have been some of your greatest personal and professional accomplishments? Is there a goal toward which you are currently working?

I’d say completing my MS in Statistics from UNC is my greatest professional accomplishment.

What is a lesson or skill that you have taken from Camp and used in your personal or professional life?

Leadership. All the leadership training from being a CILT, CIT, Counselor and Ad Staff member definitely translated to the work world. All the years at camp gave me super valuable skills.

How do the values or skills you learned at Camp show up in your everyday work and/or personal life?

Camp definitely showed me how to be comfortable when I’m out of my comfort zone. Since camp, I’m way more open to trying new things and making new friends and just being more outgoing in general. Definitely has made life more fun and interesting.

Is there a person or a situation that had a huge influence on you while you were at Camp? How and why did they/it impact you?

Rory O’Brien definitely had the biggest impact while I was a camper, counselor, and Ad staff member. He truly taught me the value of being a good leader and person. I always looked up to Rory and consistently looked to him for guidance. He always gave great life advice and was always there when you needed a friend. Rory is Camp Kanata.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Just send it. If you feel like it’s the right move, go for it. Whatever it is. Be yourself and do whatever you want. Make mistakes and learn from them.

What three words best describe you?

Analytical, Charismatic, Weird

What is your favorite camp memory?

Finding out I was a Lower Lake counselor my first full summer on staff. I wanted to be a Ranger counselor, but I’m so happy I ended up in LL.
